Oil on canvas, monogrammed WG, and numbered X923 at lower left corner, possibly indicating a date of 1923, the verso retaining an exhibition label in Cyrillic translating to "1917 - 1927 Jubilee Exhibition of Art / Catalogue No. 186," unframed.

Vladimir Grinberg studied at the Tsarevich Alexei’s Commercial College in Rostov-on-Don. He moved to Petrograd in 1915 and joined the Union of Art Workers in 1920. In addition to his paintings, Grinberg worked as a illustrator for books and magazines. He exhibited frequently over the course of his career. Five of his paintings were included in the 1924 The Russian Art Exhibition at Grand Central Palace in New York. He is considered a significant member of the “Leningrad School” in the 1920s through 1940s.

The exhibition label may be from the 1927 Jubilee Exhibition of the Arts of the Peoples of the USSR, held in Moscow to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Russian Revolution.
