Full leather, gilt-stamped spine with gilt-titled label, with marbled endpapers. Large folio; [18], 1150, [31]pp. (lacking final blank). Two engraved portraits by Kneller. With title page printed in red and black, dedication, index, printed marginalia, decorated initials, elaborate portrait head-pieces, and tail-pieces. ESTC T137777.

Laurence Echard (England, ca. 1670-1730) was a writer and historian. He is best known for writing The History of England, which became the primary text on English history for two decades after its initial publication in 1707.

Boards with light scuffs, edgewear, corners rubbed, and small areas of residue, joints lightly creased and rubbed, spine with small leather loss at head and several small wormholes, minor worming at turn-ins; interior with toning, and occasional stain, minor loss, wormhole, foxing, finger grime, and damp stains, with most pages clean and unmarked; some leaves lightly frayed with small edge chips or tears; title page with restoration, grime, and small area of writing; the portrait of Echard unfortunately trimmed and pasted, with area of residue and light scratches; index with cracking at gutter, repairs, and final page of index pasted to final endpaper; an overall good oversize volume.
