Edgar Downs studied at the Birkenhead School and the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich. He exhibited two paintings at the Royal Academy in 1911, before serving as a war artist during WWI. He was a member of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters, the London Sketch Club and the Chelsea Arts Club. He is best known for painting agricultural scenes such as the pastoral landscape presented here.
