North Carolina Swisegood Carved Walnut Corner Cupboard

Attributed to John Swisegood or Mordecai Collins, Davidson County, circa 1810-20, one part form, yellow pine secondary, overall diminutive form with robust broken arched pediment with applied cove molding and rosettes, central applied carved plinth with original urn turned finials, the case with a hinged upper glazed door having molded mullions with 15-window lights, shaped three shelf interior with plate rail, applied panel stiles surmounted with stylized mushroom carved finial, flanked by carved rope-twist quarter columns, waist with bevel applied molding, singled drawer set within, with scratch bead and distinctive one board cut secondary wood construction and double runner, above a single hinged paneled lower cabinet door, waist and base with chamfered corners, the case with canted corners, applied base molding and ogee bracket feet to the solid.

The first family members to own the cabinet were the consignor's great great grandparents Paul Bynum Kyser (1856-1937) and Emily Kyser (1864-1950) of Rocky Mount, North Carolina; passing to great grandparents Howell and Nannie Kyser of Thomasville, North Carolina, grandmother Katherine "Kitty" Kyser Pennington, and parents John "Jack" Boyd Robinson and Virginia Pennington Robinson.

Shrinkage crack to upper right corner of frieze; small repair to the left door frame; later wood nobs and pulls with plug hole; overall excellent estate condition including original plinth and pediment, original feet.
