Mary Lemon Waller was a sought after portrait artist, who specialized in child portraits. She studied at the Gloucester Art School and the Royal Academy Schools. Often compared with Sir Joshua Reynolds, her portraits are elegantly painted and her sitters retain their individuality and personality.

Waller exhibited extensively, with paintings shown at the Royal Academy, the Royal Society of Portrait Painters, the Society of Women Artists, Walker Art gallery, Royal Scottish Academy, World's Columbian Fair & Exposition in Chicago, and many others.
