Circa 1800, watercolor on ivory, the verso paper backing ink inscribed "W S Lethbridge Pinnt- / 109 96 Strand / London," the sitter in early 1800s fashion and hairstyle, dark sienna dress with lacework chest and collar, presented behind glass in an ebonized frame with an ormolu bezel and floral cast hanger.

Miniature 3 1/2 x 2 3/4 in.; frame 6 1/2 x 5 1/4 in.

Born in Charleton, Devonshire, Walter Stephens Lethbridge studied in London in the schools of the Royal Academy, and from 1801 to 1829, exhibited miniatures at the Academy. His works are in are in the prestigious collections of The National Portrait Gallery and the V&A Museum.

Some crackle and wear to frame; toning to paper backing; else good estate condition.
