Tivadar Zemplényi was a Hungarian painter, noted for his realism. He was a follower of Mihály Munkácsy, a student of Károly Lotz and Bertalan Székely in Budapest, and then Gabriel von Hackl and Ludwig Löfftz in Munich. He studied at the Munich Academy and, in 1891, was granted a government scholarship in Italy while also visiting Paris. Upon returning to Hungary, Zemplényi was a member of the free school of Szolnok for many years. He was a professor at the Hungarian University of Fine Arts.

His work was exhibited at the 1900 Exposition Universelle in Paris, at several Venice Biennales, in London, and the St. Louis World’s Fair. His work is included in the collections of the Hungarian National Gallery.

Wear at the edges of the panel, very slight age cracking.
