Frank French was an American artist. Illustrator, writer, teacher and engraver. His first art career was as a wood engraver for newspapers and other publications. His engravings were exhibited at the 1900 Exposition Universelle in Paris, the Louisiana Purchase Exhibition in 1904, the National Academy of Design, among others.

With the implementation of photo-mechanical reproductions, French began painting in oils and watercolors. He returned to his home state of New Hampshire and enjoyed painting portraits, local landscape and engraving animal subjects.
