Hand-carved white marble, signed "H. PERNOT." to side, the group depicting two putti huddled within a large clam, one putto above taking aim with bow and arrow at an intruder crab, with bronze foliate fountain mounts.

17 1/2 x 16 1/2 x 9 1/2 in.

Born in Gent, Belgium, Henri Pernot was active in France and is known for representational figural and allegorical sculpture consistent with the Bell Epoque era. Marble works by the artist rarely come to auction, and his bronze works were cast by prestigious foundries including F. Barbedienne, Siot, Etling, Thiebaut Freres, E. Blot, and Susse Freres. His works are included in major collections such as the Musee d'Orsay in Paris.

Overall good estate condition; a few minor marks to marble; some small chips to base edges.
