A Japanese Bronze Okimono of a Hawk Attributed to Maruki Company
Lot Details & Additional Photographs
Meiji period (1868-1912), patinated bronze cast bird of prey naturalistically rendered, perched with its head slightly turned downwards, its gilt and shakudo inlaid eyes intently focused below, the body of the hawk has very fine incised plumage and clawed feet, presented on a later custom marble base.

8 x 5 1/2 x 8 in.

Private Collection, Winston-Salem, North Carolina

This okimono does not have the seal of the Maruki Company, but the manner of its careful detailing and very fine craftsmanship mirror the other hawks made by artists in this company.

Good estate condition; the marble base of a later period; some minor flaking to the gilt eyes.
