Edo period (1615-1868), carved from Japanese Cypress (
hinoki) wood, the seated figure in draped robe, originally decorated in pigments and lacquer, head can be removed, hands with holes possibly previously hold something in each, comes together presented with a black lacquer base.

Extensive loss to surface lacquer and pigments exposing wood; stress cracks to wood; possibly held implements that are now lacking; some nicks to surface edges.
