Robert Benjamin Lewis (1802-1858) was an African American and Native American author and inventor from Maine. His book, Light and Truth, was first published in 1836 in his home state; an expanded version in four volumes was published in 1843, quickly followed by this 1844 edition of the expanded version published in Boston in one volume.

Boards with light scuffs and discoloration, dent to upper board, edgewear, and corners heavily rubbed, slight separation from text block at head; spine worn with tears and chips to cloth with significant loss to cloth at head and tail and a taped repair; interior with toning, foxing, and offsetting, with occasional small mark, minor damp stain, fraying at edges, creasing at inner margin, and underlining or marginalia in pencil; lacking front free endpaper, one leaf with 1/2-in tear at outer margin; an about good copy.
