Vivian Maier was an American street photographer born in New York City, though she spent much of her youth in France. She returned to the United States in 1951 and worked as a caregiver until the end of her life. She ventured into photography during her leisure. Over five decades, she documented an immense archive through photography and film that, today, acts as a window into American life, primarily in New York and Chicago, in the second half of the twentieth century.
Maier’s body of work was revealed in 2007 after being discovered at a local thrift auction house on Chicago’s Northwest Side. The collection of negatives was, in part, purchased by John Maloof. Maloof has championed the project of archiving and reconstructing Maier's work to bring to the public eye. Posthumously, Maier has become recognized as one of the most accomplished street photographers in history.
Superb condition; not examined out of frame.
