To include: a Hupa /Yurok Hat Basket, early 20th century, tightly woven in a "stairway to heaven" pattern (4 x 7 1/4 in.); a squaw cap, possibly Modoc Indian, "big goose" design amid clouds (4 x 8 in.); a Hupa/ Yurok twine woven with stepped triangle decoration and compass to underside (3 in.) (tears); possibly Wiyot food basket (5-1/2 in.) (fair condition); unidentified basket (4-1/2 in.) (losses to rim wrappings).

From the family collection of Indian Agent Charles Edwin Kelsey (1861-1936). Kelsey was highly regarded for having "...written extensively and eloquently on the practical and moral obligation of the government to redress the atrocious wrongs suffered by California Indians."

Very good condition given age and use.; the Hupa hat basket has a small area of rim loss.
