John Hawkesworth (England, ca. 1715-1773) was hired to edit the journals of the Royal Navy expeditions to the Pacific. The first book in the set focuses on the voyages of Byron, Wallis, and Carteret, while the second and third books focus on Captain James Cook. This first Dublin edition was published the same year as the illustrated London first edition.

Boards with scuffs, bumped and rubbed corners, light edgewear, and a couple of stains including a large ring on the upper board of the first volume; spines with creasing, first (2) volumes with light rubbing to gilt and wear at ends including small chips and tears and slight damage to headband; joints rubbed or creased with small chip on vol. III, a couple of tiny wormholes on vol. I, and cracking at tail of vol. I and head of vol. II; moderate wear to endpapers, ownership signatures on paste-downs, and bookplate of Edward S. Marsh in (2) volumes, occasional small areas of hinge cracking; pages with light to moderate toning, with foxing and spotting, and occasional wormholes, light grime, small stain, frayed edge, and small edge or corner loss; a good set.
