Carrie Alter studied art at the Ringling School of Art and Design, the University of Tampa, and Brevard College before receiving a Master of Fine Arts from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill in 2000. She has participated in exhibitions at museums and galleries throughout North Carolina and the United States. She has taught courses at the North Carolina School of Science and Math, the North Carolina Museum of Art, the Nasher Museum, Meredith College, and Carrboro Arts Center, and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Elon University, and the Durham Technical Community College. Her work's can be found in the collections of the Gray Collection, New York; the Jefferson Holt Collection, Greensboro, NC, the Ringling School of Art and Design, Sarasota, FL; the Century Center, Carrboro; and the Carrboro Arts Center.
