20th century, gilt brass cranes standing atop the backs of tortoises with long tails, the cranes clutch a plum blossom and bamboo branch in their mouths which curls and turns into lotus pad candle holders, all auspicious symbols in Asian culture, the crane on the back of the tortoise symbolizing longevity and happiness.
