Mungo Park was an explorer from Scotland whose book, Travels in the Interior Districts of Africa, became a best-seller. He first traveled to West Africa in 1795. He died during his second and last journey, the focus of the journal.

A very good (2) volume set; boards with expected age wear including rubbed and bumped corners, edgewear, and some scratches and scuffs; paste-downs with small area of wear; Travels with writing on free endpapers, half-title extended, title page with small area of repair, repair at inner margin of xxviii; first (2) folding maps with repairs (most expertly done), and additionally, the first with chipping to outer edge, the second stabilized in its entirety on stiffer paper; first plate with horizontal crease, one leaf with 1-in. tear at margin, and final page of music with corner tear; Journal lacking a rear free endpaper; pages with light toning, scattered foxing, and occasional offsetting, small mark/stain, light grime, and marginalia, with the leaves in both volumes overall extremely clean and crisp.
