Two British School Miniature Portraits of Officers

Circa 1800, watercolor on ivory, unsigned, both officers depicted bust length against a sky ground, the first in red coat with gold epaulette and buttons, verso ink inscribed "John Turnbull / Ensign reg. / afterwards / Town-Major of Hull / His son Wm. / Geo. married Jane Yeall sister of Charles Yeall" (3 3/8 x 2 1/2 in.); the second of a gentleman in blue coat with red collar, white waistcoat with frilled chemise and tied cravat, with later label to verso identifying sitter as "Major Page" (3 x 2 1/2 in.). Both presented in ebonized frames with ormolu bezel and hangers.
