John Chalke emigrated from England to Alberta, Canada in 1968. He taught at the University of Calgary, the Alberta College of Art, Calgary, and the University of Alberta, Edmonton. Between 1984 and 1986, he worked independently in the United States researching glazes. Chalke was married to the ceramic artist Barbara Tipton. The two ran the Wild Rose Pottery studio. Chalke was influenced highly by Japanese pottery from the Momoyama period. He was a member of the International Academy of Ceramics, was awarded the first Fine Crafts Award, Canada Council’s-Governor Generals Awards in Visual and Media Arts, he was voted a member of the Royal Canadian Academy of Art; and was awarded the Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee Medal, among others.

Good estate condition, minor hairlines and glaze flakes.
