This dowitcher carved by Issac Auston has great form and remains in remarkable condition even thought it is roughly 150 years old. This shorebird hunting rig was carefully stored in a wood box for several generations in the old Austin homestead house in Hatteras Village. Issac was the grandfather of John Austin, the famous decoy carver from North Carolina.
Original paint, natural imperfection to wood on right side, corrosion to iron stake.
