Meiji period (1868-1912), a pair of bulbous vases with tall flared hexagonal shaped necks, gold ground lacquer body lavishly applied in
shibayama technique with inlay of shell, ivory, red lacquer,
shakudo and
shibuichi, gold and silver
hiramaki-e and
togidashi maki-e as well as translucent cloisonné enamels, the first vase has a central main decoration of an elegant jardiniere containing hydrangea flowers amid flowers and butterflies, the second vase features a lovely ikebana basket overflowing with flowers among branches of plum blossoms and butterflies, with silver rim mounts have incised decoration, the vases come together with original ornate openwork carved wooden stands, presented in a custom wooden storage box
