David Leonardo was born in Mexico City and studied at both San Crlos University and La Esmeralda University. In 1986, he began working with muralist Arnol Belkin at the National Fine Arts School in Xochimilco. He gained success as a muralist and fostered a career as a full-time artist.

David Leonardo has exhibited works in the Rufino Tamayo Museum in Mexico City and the Cultural Center of Napa Valley, California. His paintings can be found in major museums throughout Mexico, as well as in private collections around the world.
