A Burmese Alabaster Marble Seated Buddha

18th century, Shan style, carved from a single block of alabaster marble, sculpture retaining to the back some of the original gilt lacquer paint, the front with scattered traces of gilt and reddish pink, very finely carved serene face, the Buddha sits with one hand at waist and one hand touching the earth, the bhumisparsha mudra position of calling the earth to witness his enlightenment, lotus blossom petals and beads carved to to seat, rough marble to underside and lower back, comes together with black stand and Authentication Certificate from Vichai Gallery, Bangkok.

Sculpture 32 1/4 x 18 1/2 x 11 in., Stand 2 3/4 x 19 1/2 x 11 1/2 in.

Purchased from Vichai Gallery, Bangkok in November 2001.

Overall very good condition; some loss to topknot finial; some loss to one knee; some scattered nicks and chips to edges, mostly to the lower base area.
