Qianlong period (1736-95), circa 1750, porcelain charger with scalloped edge, hand painted in polychrome enamels with the coat of arms of the Langton family, Kilkenny, Ireland, having a crest with three red chevrons topped with a man's heart between two wings erect, decorated along the rim with a European band with tendrils and shell motifs with hanging grape branches.

Private Collection, Virginia Beach, Virginia Collected by the consignor and her husband with the guidance of David Sanctuary Howard, who literally wrote the book on Chinese Armorial porcelain. The couple began collecting during the 1970s from galleries and auction houses across Europe and the United States, and even from Howard himself. This collection is a very special offering of some rare and wonderful pieces collected over a lifetime with great care and passion.
The Langton family from Lowe Lancashire settled in Ireland.This service was made for Nicholas Langton (1705-1779) of Danganmore, Kilkenny, Ireland. He married noblewoman Frances Carew Sanchez de Silveira in Cadiz, Spain. He was a partner of Carew Langton and Power (1745-1761), an Irish trading company in Cadiz.
