Being copperplate engravings with hand color, each having descriptive text in Latin on the verso. Presented here are IAPONIAE INSVLAE DESCRIPTIO (dated 1595), the first western map of Japan and GEOGRAPHICA SACRA (dated 1598), which shows Old and New Testament sites throughout the Middle East and adjacent areas.
Each frame is 20-3/4 x 25-1/2 in.
Private Collection Presented in plain wooden frames, each map is glued to an inset mat that reveals the map's verso text if it is exposed; the map of Japan has an additional clear waterproof film on the on the open back.
Overall 20th century age toning with some light foxing. Good condition.
