Tang dynasty (618-907), earthenware with traces of slip and red pigment, includes standing male and female figures, the lady wears flowing robes and her hair in a Tang dynasty style chignon, the male figure wearing an official's hat and robe, he has a hole where his hands meet, maybe something was original held there now lacking, they come together with square wood stands.

From the collection of Thomas English Cody (1889-1948), the great nephew of Buffalo Bill Cody, and by family descent.

Wear and loss to surface glaze on both; the male figure with repair to neck, nicks and chips to bottom edge and loss to one foot, may have had an implement that rested in hole at center that is now lacking; the female figure also with repair to neck and nicks to foot edge.
