Probably Parisian, circa 1900, hammered copper and iron, of octagonal torpedo form, the upper panels featuring alternating repousse seahorse and crab motifs, within Gothic style iron strappings, spouting four whiplash buttress legs, the foot signed "LACROIX" and interior marked with gilt "N."

21 1/2 x 21 1/2 x 21 1/4 in.

Sea creature motifs were a common theme with European metalworkers of the Arts & Crafts, Jugendstil and Seccessionist movements, including artists such as Ludwig Karl Maria Vierthaler (German, 1875-1967).

Scattered rust spotting, primarily deep to interior, the basin with some associated losses; one crab with dent and puncture.
