This mark is attributed to John Y. Savage in George Barton Cutten's book, Silversmiths of North Carolina 1696-1860, revised by Mary Reynolds Peacock and published in 1984.

J. Y. Savage was a silversmith, watchmaker and dentist. He was active in Raleigh, NC (1818-1826); Salisbury, NC (circa 1823); Richmond, VA (circa 1829-1832); and New York, NY (1839-1860). Savage was also involved in two partnership over the course of his lifetime - Savage & Stedman and Savage & Kunsman.
