1860s-1870s, likely silk on linen foundation, the field with assorted detached animals and floral motifs, including two large lions, a bird-filled tree, and two pairs of skirted figures wearing hats, rosette border, all in cross-stitch, with panel to upper center that has the following stitched message: "THOMAS / CRABTREE WHO / DIED JANUARY / 24TH 1862 AGED / 20 YEARS HIS / WORK FINISHE / D BY MOTHER / IN 66 YEARS OF / AGED 1874 KEP / THESE FEW LI / NES TO REMEM / BER ME THINK / OF HIM", framed. With notation to reverse written by the late Mike Joyce.
