Horace Talmage Day was an American painter known for his landscape and portrait paintings, particularly of the Southern United States. Born in China to missionary parents, Day later moved to the United States, where he studied art at the Art Students League in New York and later under the renowned artist Charles Hawthorne.

Day’s work is characterized by its vibrant use of color and an impressionistic style, capturing the warmth and light of Southern landscapes with a keen sense of atmosphere. In addition to his painting, he was a respected art educator, teaching at institutions such as Mary Baldwin College in Virginia. His works were exhibited widely, included in shows at the Whitney Museum, New York, the New York World’s Fair of 1939-1940, and the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, Richmond.
