Thomas Griffin was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania during the last half of the nineteenth century. His formal studies began at the National Academy of Design in New York. While at the Academy, Griffin exhibited his impressionistic landscapes. Later, the artist moved to Baltimore, where he opened a studio, and established himself as an American landscape painter.

Several patched holes with associated retouching, small holed at upper left, loss at right side, small dent to canvas at lower right.
