Made in France for Saks Fifth Avenue retail, monogram canvas with leather trim, Talon zipper, with J.H.S. monogram.

James H. Semans was the founding chairman of the N.C. School of the Arts and a leader in arts support from the national to the grass-roots levels. A retired Duke University physician, he championed the arts school in Winston-Salem and many other artistic and humanitarian causes. Most often, he did so in concert with his wife, Mary Duke Biddle Trent Semans, the great-granddaughter of university namesake Washington Duke.
Fair condition with sewn canvas repairs, cracking and discoloration to the leather with thread losses, tears to the canvas. The initials "JHS" were later sewn on additions.
