Lilian MacKendrick grew up in the art world of New York's Armory Show. She graduated from New York University with a degree in Fine Arts, and went on to study sculpture at City College of New York and painting at the Art Students League. She regularly spent summers in France, and her style echoes the French fauvists, whose works she likely encountered there.

Her works can be found int the collections of the Museum of Fine Arts of Houston, Texas; the Wadsworth Atheneum, Hartford, CT.; the Walker Art Center, Minneapolis, MI; the Galeria d'Arte Contemporanea, Bordighera, Italy; the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; the Georgia Museum, Athens, GA.; the Brandeis University, Boston, MA.; the Bezalel Museum, Jerusalem, Israel; and the Hirshhorn Museum, Washington, D.C; though a devastating flood in her studio destroyed many of the artists paintings.

Good estate condition, light grime.
