Wool and silk, with alphanumeric bands and decorative borders in red, browns, and green, above a pious verse and the names and initials of family members, including parents Gilbert Dunlop and Susanna Gavin, signed below "Catherine K Dunlop Embroidered This 1849", with border of twining flowers and pictorial motifs to corners.

Catherine Kennedy Dunlop was born on October 4, 1838 in Gorbals, Scotland (now part of Glasgow), making her 11 years old when she stitched this sampler.

Some discoloration to ground, some loss to stitches, scuffing to frame, otherwise good estate condition. Not examined out of frame.
