Likely Scottish, wool on linen foundation: the first with bands of alphanumeric characters and decorative borders above central tree flanked by white geese, riders on horseback, floral baskets, and other detached motifs, with "Louisa Butcher March 31st 1808" to lower register, with twining floral border, all cross-stitch (framed dimensions 15.75 x 15.75 in. ) (discoloration, waviness to ground, otherwise bright colors, scuffing to frame and glue at joints); the second with a central pious verse with detached motifs including a house, Solomon's temple, trees, birds, flowers, and a shepherd with sheep, all within a twining flower border of red and green, with signature panel that states "Mary Smith's / work 1824 / Aged 14 years" (framed dimensions 22.5 x 23.75 in.) (staining including one large area near center, some holes and looseness to foundation, discoloration near edges from old tacks, fading, scuffing to frame).
