Autograph Letter Signed, Philadelphia, July 16, 1800, one page, quarto (10-1/2 x 7-1/2 in.), as follows: "I have the honour of enclosing a passport for Mr. Cordeau and his family for St. Thomas's and St. Bartholomew's. The reason of my hesitation on the subject was that he had, in his letter to me, asked for Martinique. Some mistake has taken with regard to the passport. I took the liberty to request in favor of a person of the name of Clarkson, His Christian name is William and not John. So that I must beg you will have the goodness to have the necessary alteration made, an to excuse the trouble I have thus been obliged to give you. I have the honour to be with great truth and regard, Sir, Your most obedient humble servant. Rob. Liston."
From the Collection of the Lyman Family, Massachusetts Dampstain to upper left margin; overall lightly toned and clean.
