Images Pertaining to the Van Ness Mansion (1816), Washington, DC
Lot Details & Additional Photographs
An albumen photograph of the Van Ness Mansion leads a parade of thirty-five (35) views covering the Washington, D.C. area and various locations across the United States. Accompanying the album is a small wooden frame housing an outdoors image of an unknown elderly black man. Surprisingly, another view of the Van Ness Mansion is glued to the back of the man's portrait. It is likely that the gentleman pictured was a Van Ness servant, but that can only be conjecture without deeper research.
