Caswell County, North Carolina, circa 1850, including a rocking chair with distinctive carved scroll and stylized trefoil support, serpentine slip seat with white pine board, shaped front feet, rockers with S-scrolled rear tips (37 x 24 x 36 in.); together with am armchair with scrolled back, arms with bold C-scroll supports, slip spring seat with pine board, front saber legs, on casters (41 x 23 x 25 in.).
Both chairs with inscriptions to the underside of the seats.
Rocking chair: "From / John & Rowena Robinson Lewis / Hoodlawn (Cochran) Road VA / Parents of Judge High's Wife / Great Great Grandparents J. Herbert Taylor 1914"
Armchair: "Bought at Baltimore Co. Auction $15.00 / Restored 1974 Townson Md / Faye & Herbert / M. Taylor / Feb. 1974"
Later upholstery with wear to the arms and seats; good structural condition.
