Robert Box grew up in Sunset Park, Brooklyn. After a chance encounter with Monet’s water lily paintings during a high school field trip to the Museum of Modern Art, he was inspired to pursue painting himself.

After dropping out of the School of Visual Arts, Box returned to Brooklyn. He joined a band, which was signed by Capitol / EMI, and continued to paint. His works have been included in group exhibitions at the Brooklyn Museum, the Henry Hicks Gallery in Brooklyn Heights and the Agora Gallery in SOHO.
