Meiji period (1868-1912), silk and metallic gold wrapped threads, a pair of impressive towering panels featuring two powerful gold dragons embroidered using a variety of stitch techniques exhibiting the high level of textile skills realized in Japan during the Meiji period, the dragons fly in opposite directions their bodies in serpentine motion through cloud bands, embroidered onto a gold silk brocade ground, presented in lucite display cases.

Case dimensions 84 x 33 x 3, Textile size 73 x 25 in.

Embroidery in excellent condition; both panels with some tears and sewn repairs to silk ground, one more than the other; some scattered light stains; not examined outside of the frames.
