The Great Books of the Western World were originally published in 1952 by Encyclopaedia Britannica in collaboration with the University of Chicago. The Franklin Library published the volumes as a 25th Anniversary Limited Edition "exclusively for subscribers."

Mostly light shelf wear, frequent scuffing to bottom edge, with an occasional folded page, small edge mark/stain, and toning at endpapers; otherwise about near fine, many books appear unread with some leaves partially unopened.
