August Lüdecke-Cleve was a German painter renowned for his landscapes and animal depictions, particularly of cattle and sheep. Born in Heinsberg, he studied at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf under Hugo Crola and later at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich with Franz Roubaud and Heinrich von Zügel, earning a silver medal upon graduation. In 1901, Lüdecke-Cleve established his studio in Munich, frequently traveling to regions such as the Lower Rhine, Chiemsee, and the Salzkammergut for inspiration. A member of artist groups like Laetitia in Düsseldorf and the Munich Artists' Society Allotria, he regularly exhibited at venues including the Glaspalast in Munich. Despite the destruction of his Munich studio in 1943, Lüdecke-Cleve continued to create art until his death in 1957.
