From the Estate of the late Elizabeth "Betsy" Buford and Dr. Donald Mathews, Raleigh, North Carolina Stephen White is an acclaimed artist living and practicing in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. He is known for his textured paintings with gilt highlights that are inspired by ancient Byzantine techniques and Asian influences. White’s favorite model, a woman named Marian, has been the muse for the stylized female figures often depicted in White’s work throughout his career.
