Watercolor on ivory, signed "Mlle. de Noireterre" to lower right, mounted on a round snuff or patch box with gilt trim, the interior label identifying sitter as "Claude Francois Didier / ui en 1760 a' Paris / chef du Tresor, des [?] / g. d l'horlog / de [?] 63 / Paris".

Mlle. Marie-Therese de Noireterre (sometimes spelled Noireserre), was a French portrait miniature artist and pupil of the female virtuoso artist, Adelaide Labille-Guiard (French, 1749-1803). Marie-Therese showed miniatures in the Salon de la Correspondance in 1786-1787 and in the Paris Salon from 1791 to 1803. Examples of her works can be found in the Louvre and in many private collections.

The interior box lid with crack near perimeter; gilt mounts with denting and possibly remounted.
