First quarter 19th century, watercolor on ivory, the first of a stately British officer with coup a vent hair, attired in red coat uniform with high collar and black stock, presented in a period ivory bifold case with royal blue velvet interior, verso paper inscribed in graphite "B[?] / May 1820" (wafer 3 1/2 x 2 5/8 in.; case 4 x 3 1/8 in.); the second of a dark-haired Continental officer, attired in red and black coat with gold epaulettes, wearing medal of honor pin and black stock, presented in a copper pendant (2 7/8 x 1 3/8 in.; case 3 3/4 x 2 3/4 in.).
