Circa 1840-50, poplar and white pine secondary, two part form, stenciled label to interior bottom "William McL. Cripps, Cabinet and Sofa Manufactured, Washington, D.C.", applied crest with carved anthemion motif, two large hinged upper cabinet doors with glass panel and applied carved oval with fretwork including quatrefoil, louvered shelved interior, the base with two side by side small drawers with Gothic arch and secret underside louvered lock above two hinged cabinet doors, the case raised on distinctive carved scrolled front feet.

93 x 48.75 x 20 in.

William was noted as an upright citizen, and a cabinetmaker in 1822; he was commissioned to construct three bookcases for the White House during Millard Fillmore's term (1850-1853).

Left upper cabinet door with veneer loss; shrinkage crack and some fretwork missing; upper case lower rear moldings with losses; veneer loss at corners of base above feet; as found estate condition.
