Neal Conoley purchased this decoy and four other Beasley ruddy decoys from Julian Snow in 1980. Julian was the brother of Dexter Snow. Two of these Beasley ruddy decoys are published on page 153 and 175 of
Waterfowl Heritage North Carolina Decoys and Gunning Lore by Neal Conoley.
Jim Buck was the son of famed maker, Solomon Beasley. He made some classic decoys which has prominent wooded keels. This example began as a bluebill which later had added cheek patches to serve as a ruddy. A rig mate is published on page 252 of
Gunnin' Birds, by Kroghie Andresen.
