Bode was a market hunter, cattle rancher, and waterman. He ran a commercial hunting operation near the Currituck Inlet Club. Bode died in 1931, and one of his guides, Rufus Roberts, took over the lodge. It them became known as the Roberts Brothers' Lodge.
