Worked in various shades of green and gold silk thread on loose linen ground, the Georgian house with double chimneys enclosed within a picket fence and flanked by trees and with floral motifs, bottom register with signature, date, and location reading, Clemenza L. Millers Sampler Caroline Ct. VA / February 10th 1831, presented under glass in a paint decorated wooden frame.

Research suggests that the maker is possibly Clemenza L. Miller, born January 19, 1814 in Port Royal, Caroline County, Virginia to John Prince Miller (1789-1838) and Susan Pearson Alexander (1789-1835) and marrying John Burke Tod (1814-1852) in Caroline County February 12, 1835; she died January 4, 1840. Various spellings of her name include Clamesnia L. Miller and Clamania L. Miller.
